.3 Nuclear Power Production and Operation 029
Abstract: The installed capacity and power generation of commercial nuclear
power plants in China have grown steadily. This section comprehensively shows the
production and operation of nuclear power in China in 2021 by sorting out the latest
data on the installed capacity, power generation, utilization hours of nuclear power
equipment, operational safety, and nuclear energy heating. By the end of 2021,China
added 3 new commercial nuclear power units, bringing the cumulative number to 51
with an installed capacity of 53.26 million kilowatts. The nuclear power generation
increased signifi cantly by 11.17% compared to last year, reaching 407.141 billion kWh
and accounting for about 4.8% of the national total power generation. The average

utilization hours of nuclear power throughout the year and the average capacity factor
was 7777.85 hours and 92.27%, respectively. All nuclear power plants operated safely
and stably, and there was no operation incident of INES level 1 or above throughout
the year. The full score proportion of China’s nuclear unit WANO comprehensive
index reached 70.8%,with an average value of 97.83,both higher than that of
major nuclear power countries and better than that of global units. In 2021, the
demonstration and promotion of nuclear energy heating in China also began.

.4 Nuclear Power Engineering Construction 043
Abstract: By the end of 2021, China had 20 nuclear power units under
construction, with a total installed capacity of 21.429 million kilowatts. The installed
capacity of nuclear power units under construction continued to rank first in the
world. And 6 nuclear power units were newly started in 2021.In 2021, China’s nuclear
